Currency: Gibraltar Pound (GIP) which is on par with the British Pound (GBP). Gibraltar has its own bank notes and coins but sterling notes are accepted.
Government: British Overseas Territory with full internal self-government under the 2006 constitution. The UK retains responsibility for defence, foreign relations, internal security and financial stability. Gibraltar is part of the EU but is outside the customs union and VAT area.
